Car Won't Start But Has Power

This is a genuinely different problem to a flat battery. If your dashboard lights, radio, and interior lights all work normally but the engine simply won't crank or start, the battery is very often not the cause.

Why this points away from the battery

A weak or dead battery usually shows up everywhere at once — dim lights, no radio, sluggish or silent cranking. If everything electrical seems totally normal but the engine itself won't turn over or fire up, the more likely culprits are:

• Starter motor fault — the battery has enough charge to run electronics but not enough current is reaching the starter, or the starter itself has failed.
• Ignition switch or immobiliser issue — the security system isn't recognising your key, so it's blocking the engine from starting as a theft-prevention measure.
• Fuel delivery problem — the engine is cranking but not firing, which can feel similar but is a different underlying issue.

A quick way to narrow it down

Turn the key to start and listen closely: if you hear a single loud clunk but no cranking, that's usually the starter motor or its solenoid. If the engine cranks normally (turns over) but doesn't fire up, that's more likely fuel or ignition-related, not something a jump start will fix.
